The Truth

So I have completely fallen off the wagon – meaning I haven’t posted or written anything in far too long. It might have been a month by now; I’m a little ashamed of myself. But anyway, I have one question right now. Ready?

What would the world be like if everyone was honest with each other every moment of the day? When I ask this I mean what if this was just how the world was. Would no one get offended? Would there be less misunderstandings? Less wars even?

This question just randomly came to me and I don’t really have my own answer for it. Even though I feel like I’ve seen a movie based around this premise but I can’t remember what it was called.

Cinnamon Rolls

I love cinnamon; it is probably my favorite flavor (and smell). Cinnamon rolls are the way to my heart, specifically Cinnabon rolls. Bring me one of those babies and I will love you forever.

I’ve been wanting to make my own homemade cinnamon rolls for a while now but I have been too lazy to do so yet. I don’t really have anything else to do for the moment though so I might very well bake them in the next couple weeks. Just imagine how great the house would smell! That is definitely a huge motivation for me.

Today I took the easy way out and bought a roll of Pillsbury Cinnabon rolls and popped them in the oven. The house still smells wonderful and they taste great but there is no substitute for original Cinnabon or made from scratch.

Birthday of Mom-strous Proportions

It was my mom’s birthday yesterday! So I gave myself the day off from my 30 Day Challenge because I was making dinner and doing stuff for/with her all day.

I think it was a really great day. I made her dinner (shrimp scampi, quinoa salad and regular salad), and it was so delicious. Definitely the perfect birthday dinner for her. I made her a card in the morning too. Even though I think it looks like it was made by an 8 year old, she loved it. Mom’s are the best.

Today we saw Into the Woods as part of my birthday present to her. Such a great movie! I think I still prefer the happy fairy tale endings but the twist the film put on the fairy tales was awesome. And I love Anna Kendrick! She is so funny and has such a beautiful singing voice! And Chris Pine is just super hot…

Overall, I think my mom had a great birthday and I had a lot of fun spending it with her!

The Movie that Wasn’t

My mom’s birthday is tomorrow so we were going to watch Paddington today as one of my presents to her but we both woke up with stiff necks so that plan ended up being kaput. I’m bummed because I was really looking forward to watching that sweet little bear on the big screen, and I know my mom was too. Oh well, we’ll probably RedBox it when it comes out in a few months (that’ll be cheaper anyway),

Hopefully our Saturday movie plan of watching Into the Woods will still happen! I have been wanting to watch that  film for aaages! Mainly because I adore Anna Kendrick. And Emily Blunt. And Meryl Streep. And Chris Pine is so easy on the eyes. I have a lot of motivation to watch this film.

I will probably do a post at some point about my favorite movies and/or movies I want to see.

Polyvore Creations

I’ve posted a lot of outfits from Polyvore that I have created. I’m really proud of them for some reason. Fashion has always been something I’ve loved and I love using fashion games and apps like Polyvore. The majority of the outfits I put together in my posts are things that I would love to wear myself (if only I had an unlimited wardrobe!).

Sometimes when I’m trying to create an outfit, I’ll just pick a category, scroll through it with my eyes closed and pick a random item then create an outfit around that piece. That is really fun to do, and can be challenging sometimes. Other times I scroll through until something catches my eye, which usually doesn’t take very long… My favorite part is when I finish putting the pieces together and everything has come together so perfectly!

Overall, fashion is something that is really fun for me because I can do whatever I want with it. I have control over it and when I am wearing the clothes, I get to choose how I want to portray myself at that instant and that is a really great thing. I don’t think clothes should be taken to seriously and everyone has their own style.

If Felix Could Write

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Return Address.”

My family has a black and white cat named Felix. He’s about 12 years old and super lazy. Here is what I would imagine he would write in a journal if he had those kinds of skills (and liked writing).

January 19, 2014

The Christmas tree is still up! That means I still have Fort Kick-Ass at my disposal. It’s where I keep my catnip mouse (shhh don’t tell anyone). I love playing with it and rubbing it all over my face. I think my humans like it too because they always give it to me and help me find it when I lose it.

Today was a great day. I slept in my human sister’s bed all night, even though she sleeps in really late so I left her blankets in the morning to get my day started on the couch next to The Big Man. He always watches other humans yell at each other on the TV, which I don’t like, but he scratches my head so I sit next to him on the couch. I also got to see my human mom in the kitchen. I always visit her in the morning but she never gives me anything; I don’t understand why, I come to visit her enough. Maybe if I just lay in the middle of the floor or right behind her she’ll give me something.

I spent the rest of the day on the couch. The humans came in and out of the living room, always petting me when they go past (but not enough). In the evening when everyone is on the couch, I have to sit on the floor because they take up all the couch to themselves. But if anyone gets up, I take my spot back. The couch is mine, I have covered it in my fur.

Time to go back to sleep until I get petted again.

Cooking Day

I have had a pound of ground turkey sitting in my freezer for a few months now. Today I finally used it. I made mozzarella stuffed meatballs (you can find the recipe I used here http://bakerbynature.com/30-minute-mozzarella-stuffed-turkey-meatballs-with-homemade-marinara/). They ended up tasting really good, but could have used more salt, which was a bit disappointing. I’ve been cooking a lot more than I usually do and I’m really enjoying it. It is a very satisfying feeling when you take a pan of something out of the oven that you made yourself. Even if the dish does not turn out exactly how you think it was going to, it still feels good because you know you put the effort into it (and there’s always the next time). Trial and error baby.

Baking is something I would like to start doing more though. Brownies and cookies and banana bread and Carmelitas and blueberry muffins and lots of other chocolate things preferably. Pinterest is my favorite site of all time and I have tons of food pins that range from crockpot recipes to homemade Cinnabon cinnamon rolls. Speaking of which….cinnamon rolls are at the top of my list of things to bake. The best part about baking (for me at least) is the smell of whatever it is that’s baking, while it is baking. I should stop saying baking… But anyway, the smell of cookies or brownies or whatever, is so amazing, almost better than actually eating them, but not quite ;).

Now I am seriously craving chocolate so I’m gonna grab some ice-cream. Ta-ta for now!

Hiking & Sushi

I love hiking. And sushi. Today I got to enjoy both. My boyfriend took me hiking, and it was definitely an adventure. The trail was pretty much just ice and it was uphill the whole way. I off-roaded it basically the entire trip up; going off the trail into the crunchy snow and dry ground where I could actually get footing. It was a slow trip up. When we got about 3/4 of the way up, it got a little steeper and about twice as icy. There was no way that this was going to end well. And it didn’t. I slipped hard and went down even harder. I kept sliding down the trail until my boyfriend caught me…we then proceeded to slide down more together until he was able to grab onto a stump. He may have saved my life. At that point in the excursion, he decided it was about time to turn around and I whole heartedly agreed. Going down was just as treacherous as the way up, and I slipped at least two more times. Each time he was there to catch me and help me get back up.

When we managed to get back to his car, I was so happy. It was a fun little adventure but unnecessarily painful for me haha. At that point we were both starving so he took me to get sushi at his favorite place. It was so good! We got a crunch roll and an oh my god roll. And oh my god they were delicious. We were only at the restaurant for about 20 minutes but it was a great 20 minutes.

Today I am thankful that my luck was good enough to avoid serious injury on the trail.

Friends

One of my friends just came into town and I got to see her for a little bit today. She’s here for about a week so I hope I get to see her a couple more times. Her being here made me think about friends and my friendships with different people. One of my New Years resolutions was to be more social/reach out to old friends but I don’t know how successful I am being at that so far. I feel like I don’t click with people that easily so I tend to not get close with a lot of people. One friend that I did want to become better friends with is on a road trip across the country for the semester so it’s a lot harder to keep in contact with her. Hopefully we’ll stay friends while she’s off adventuring.

I hope that I can push my boundaries a little more this year when it comes to being social and making friends. I want to be better friends with my roommates as well.

Europe in the Summer!

A part of 2015 that I am SUPER excited for is a trip to Europe in July/August. I love Europe and cannot wait to be traveling there again. Especially because this time, I will be going to places I have not been before; which means…I’m finally going to Italy! I’ll be in Austria for about a week, then joining up with a group that will then travel to Vienna, Maribor, Bled, then ending in Venice to round out the 3 week extravaganza. I think we are spending 4 or 5 days in Venice at the end, and I could not be more excited! Pizza and pasta and wine, oh my!

To prep for this trip, I know it’s a long way off but I’m too excited, I downloaded the app Duolingo and will be brushing up on my German, plus trying to learn some basic Italian. My goal for this trip is to not look like a tourist as much as possible. Obviously I will fail at some points, like when looking at all the beautiful architecture. I will definitely be the gawking American, trying to take in all the beauty with my camera.

I know I’ll be posting a packing list before I go, even though I have no idea if I’ll be blogging anything while I’m actually over there. I will probably just write in a journal during the trip, then post about it when I get back. There will definitely be outfit posts for the trip! I’m really excited about that aspect of traveling to Europe; the style and the shopping!
